Frank
Noble looks a bit nervous about all of this conversation for some
reason.
FRANK
Actually, speaking of
'inventions' I've got a new job since I lost my fellowship with
Kensington.
FRED
Can you believe that?!
You should sue. Are you SURE you don't remember who put you in
there?
FRANK
Afraid not. At any
rate, I've got an idea for a potential job as a special effects
coordinator-
ISAAC AND ARTHUR
Cool!
KAROL
That sounds like an
excellent idea.
FRANK
But I'm going to need a
few things to show them what I can do. I was wondering if I could
get your help with some of the simpler mechanisms.
FRED
I suppose. I don't
know. Things are kind of busy at the hardware store. Still, I
suppose I can.
Karol
Noble hugs her husband and kisses him. The kids cheer.
FRANK
When do we get started?

[The 500] Getting it Right
We asked ourselves if we knew what we were doing but we knew we didn't. I stared at the aged oak railing that had been worn away by wind and rain and looked out across the shields that told me I knew what I needed to know already. A line of plastic shields and frowning faces snaked its way down the street and around the corner.
How many were there? How many of them wanted to be here? And yet I knew that they were not ready for what was to come. A peaceful protest (minus a few morons who decided burning a convenience store was the key to social change). They kept staring at me. They were staring at us.
For a supposedly free country, it sure didn't feel that way when I looked at the firehoses, the tear gas grenade launcher, the plastic truncheons and the tasers. It was about control. It was about the status quo.
But the world was turning. And that thin plastic line wasn't enough to stop it. They could murder one or two of us, but they couldn't change the truth. The biggest wall to that was the wall of ignorance, maintained by those who wanted to live in a sanitized Andy Griffith world long passed.
And then someone began to sing a hymn. It was catchy, and while I was terrible with the lyrics I could join in on the chorus. The plastic line shifted nervously. They didn't like this. They didn't want this. But they held firm.
Then we joined hands and began to march to the park. That caused them to freak out. We were 'attacking' them, so they opened up with the tear gas. It felt like I had salt and vinegar poured down my throat. A lot of others scattered, but I held still.
Then they leapt forward and began to beat me. There in the shadows of twilight, my skin color didn't matter. My social status didn't matter. I was a threat to the status quo. I was a threat to their order. They didn't like it.
I heard someone moan as the defenders of 'justice' began to beat them. They were being filmed, but they didn't care. The Wall of Ignorance would protect them. As I blacked out I wondered...will we ever have justice? Maybe. But it will be earned one martyr at a time.

ISAAC
Badgers are COOL!
ARTHUR
Yeah! The Bright Badger
is the best hero EVER.
Fred
Noble bangs his hand on the table.
FRED
None of that! You know I
don't like that kind of talk.
ISAAC
I don't see what is the
big deal. You obviously have the tech gene.
FRED
For the last time. Just
because someone shows a little technical aptitude does not mean that
they have 'the tech gene'. And even those that are unfortunate
enough to have it, do not all go putting on their underwear and
parading around in public acting like fools.
ARTHUR
But Dad it would be so
cool!
KAROL
Your father was tested.
Your father and your uncle don't have the meta gene or the tech gene.
They're just both very good men. Perfectly normal.
FRED
No. Everyone in this
room is perfectly extraordinary.
KAROL
Of course dear.

ISAAC
So.
ARTHUR
So.
FRED
So what?
ARTHUR
So-so.
Everyone
at the table laughs.
FRANK
Thanks for getting me
out of there Fred.
FRED
Hey. You'd do the same
thing.
ARTHUR
Are you crazy Uncle
Frank?
FRED
ARTHUR!
ARTHUR
What? I just wanted to
know.
FRANK
Yes, Arthur. I am
crazy.
Fred
rolls his eyes.
ARTHUR
Cool. Do you get to
take medication?
FRANK
Er, No.
FRED
Your uncle does not need
medication.
ISAAC
Actually dad, he has
been acting kind of weird.
KAROL
Stop badgering your
uncle.

FRANK
Fred! Good to see you!
These people locked me up, I have no idea why.

Dr. Dobin will be out to

Dr.
Dobin comes out about ten seconds later from the office on the other

DR DOBIN
Mr. Noble, so glad to
see you. Perhaps there has indeed been some misunderstanding. You
see Mr. Noble checked himself into our clinic.
FRED
Really? That sounds like
crap to me.
DR DOBIN
He specifically
requested that no one be informed that we admitted him. He is
demonstrating...well, extreme catatonic manic depressiveness.
LAWYER
Those terms are

Frank Noble.
ATTENDANT
I'm afraid we have no

FRED
This is my lawyer, she
seems to think that you're holding out on us.
LAWYER
I have definite
testimony from another patient here that Mr. Noble is indeed here and
being held against his will. We can contact law enforcement
authorities but felt that it might be easier for all involved if we
tried to handle the situation quietly, but if you insist on making a
ruckus about the issue.
FRED
I'm in the mood to make
a ruckus. Are you in the mood to make a ruckus?

DOC SHADOWS
I will regress you to

Just because you have a little toy that keeps me from easily reading

J.R.R. THORNE
You WILL be party to

another telepath, and kill more of Dr. Noble’s family until I have

is not. By any means, my Dear Doctor.
Doc
Shadows glares at Thorne, but finally squats again and stares into
Dr. Noble’s eyes.

J.R.R. THORNE

Dr. Noble?
Frank
suddenly becomes more animated, and begins to struggle at the

FRANK
What are you doing?
J.R.R. THORNE
I thought as much. I do
my homework Dr. Shadows, and I’ve come to learn that certain
violent and sudden psychological trauma can undo these ‘psychic
barriers’ you speak of. Let’s find out, shall we?
DOC SHADOWS
You know I do not
condone to the harming of innocents. That was part of our
arrangements.

Thorne picks up the phone and looks at Doc Shadows
J.R.R. THORNE

J.R.R. THORNE
Your opinion isn’t
necessary, Dr. Noble. In fact, if you had simply cooperated in the
first place none of this would have happened. You’re a normal flesh
and blood human being, like I am. If you can’t understand the logic
of what I’m doing, then you’re just not cut out to be among the
living…you’re no better than everyone else who blindly sits by
and lets these demigods run amok about the earth.
DOC SHADOWS
(chuckles)
Am I a demi-god then?
J.R.R. THORNE
It is interesting Doctor
Shadows, that you question my logic. You didn’t question it when
you joined my organization. Are you doing so now?
DOC SHADOWS
(pauses)
No. It is necessary.
J.R.R. THORNE
Then proceed with your
interrogation.
Doctor
Shadows squats down on his legs and stares again into Frank’s eyes.
There is a brief visible struggle.
DOC SHADOWS
Amazing…he’s still
holding on some how. He’s got something he’s using as a psychic
barrier against me….I’ve never seen such willpower.

J.R.R.
Thorne flips a switch on the side of the chair, causing Frank to jolt
as if from an electric current.
J.R.R. THORNE
Why waste a perfectly
good telepathic probe when you can do it the old fashioned way…
Doc
Shadows turns off the switch.
DOC SHADOWS
That wasn’t necessary.
J.R.R. THORNE
Of course it didn't help
get the information from him, but I think it was, Doctor Shadows,
very necessary. It was the kind of necessary that a young mother
feels when she shoots the man that ran over her child and drove away
into the night, it’s the kind of necessary our founding fathers
felt when they dumped the tea into the Boston Harbor, and it’s the
kind of necessary that I’ve felt every day of my entire life for
the last twenty years. I assure you Doctor Shadows, it was and is
necessary.
DOC SHADOWS
I believe your logic has
a few flaws in it Thorne.

changed your mind about giving me the formula?
Frank
Noble slowly looks up.
FRANK
Isn’t that already
sort of formulaic?
J.R.R. THORNE
Ah yes, evil villain
tortures hapless scientist to obtain secret formula to conquer the
world, isn’t that it?
FRANK
Something like that yes.
It sounds a lot like the shows I watched growing up as a child.
J.R.R. THORNE
Ah, but you see Dr.
Noble, the difference between your little television shows and THIS
is that you are not only watching but feeling this…feeling the pain
searing through your nerves, feeling the unreality of staying awake
for 96 hours straight searing through your entire consciousness.
You’ve managed to resist Dr. Shadows so far, but do you really
think you can continue?

Major
Characters
Frank
Noble (Grenademan) - A brilliant scientist in his late twenties;
smart, idealistic, moderately handsome but hopelessly socially inept.
His hidden alterego, "GRENADEMAN" always speaks in capital
letters, possesses no fear whatsoever, and has a mirthful bizarrely
screwed up perspective of good, evil and reality. He is insane.
Doc
Shadows (Archelius deShade) - A strong powerful man, with noble
features he always hides behind a gas mask and fedora. One of the
first metas, he has telepathically tricked Death into leaving him
alone to give himself immortality. He hates what metas have done to
the world and is determined to make it a better place. At all costs.
Hawkqueen
(Katrina Dasalgo) - A beautiful empath of the past generation. She
is the paramount protector of the city and a skilled warrioress. She
works with two empathicly linked hawks, Trouble and Double Trouble.
Inoria
- (Jaycee Defoe) - A technowizard, sexy with a bizarre sense of
humor. She is the protege of hawkqueen and hopelessly smitten by
Frank Noble, despite his insanity. Likes things that explode.
Chainsaw
Fred (Fred Noble) - Hates crazy idiots in costume. Owns a hardware
store. Frank's pragmatic older brother. Mechanically brilliant,
willing to do what must be done to protect his family. Even Frank
when he puts on a costume.
J.R.R.
Thorne - The villain. He is determined to trick Shadows into
building a device which will allow him to steal the technological
secrets of a generation and make him a very rich man. He hates metas
and has developed a powerful PAC to help him do so.

Dedicated to my lovely wife Julia Carlson Ricks. This was originally part of a deal for a cover and a graphic novel with an artist who is a friend of mine, but alas, she had other projects she had to move on to and reverted the rights of the script to me. Someday I may ping her and ask to share with you the delightful art she did for the first chapter, but for now, words will have to suffice.
I'm not sure when, if ever, I'll be able to have this put to art. Maybe a kickstarter someday but there are at least two other projects that must come before it; Forever West and a second Fate of Inglemia book. But at least I can share the script with you.
I hope you enjoyed. More content will appear from time to time here. Enjoy!

could resume their lives and for a time pretend that things were
normal.

Row 2 Box 2 Pete gets a look of inspiration on his face.
Row 2 Box 3 Flashback: Pete sees two trolls talking.
Troll 1: That's why they keep losing right? They keep trying to

subtle features making them look a bit more like Horus.
Horus: Avinal Avinal Avinale

[Seventh Seal] Page 87 - Chapter 6
Row 1 Nungo steps out of the portal. Behind him is a whole line of
'good' trolls, imps and other fae creatures from the other side of
the veil. Nungo looks annoyed but determined.
Row 2 Box 1 Close up of Nungo's fingers snapping.
SNAP!
Row 2 Box 2 Vesuvius's bubble pops and suddenly he can breath. Jesra
looks very happy.
Row 2 Box 3 Sluice is surrounded by a glow.
Row 2 Box 4 Sluice is now entirely whole.
Row 3 Box 1 Horus looks down from the corner of his eye and looks
concerned but does not stop his ritual.
Horus: Atila Zedemra Fortilana
Row 3 Box 2 The trolls working for Horus immediately turn around and
begin battling the forces that Nungo has brought with him.
Row 3 Box 3 Jesra reaches down and picks up the wand.

gloves come out.
Row 4 Box 1 Horus looks annoyed at their impact but doesn't stop.
Horus: Atinea Forical Tortuga
Row 4 Box 2 Vesuvius smiles on Jesra's shoulder and opens his hand.
Vesuvius: You're a natural but would you mind?
Row 4 Box 3 Jesra looks mildly chagrined, smiles and hands him the
wand.
Row 4 Box 4 Vesuvius takes it and smiles wickedly.
